LED (Standard)
All street light packages on GotItWholesale.com use LED as the standard lighting source. LED is both cost and energy-efficient since LED bulbs last longer and require less wattage for lighting outputs comparable to higher wattage HPS and MH bulbs (detailed below).
The LED lamp has grown more popular due to its efficiency. Although the LED bulb has been around for over 50 years, the white LED’s recent development caught the public eye as a replacement for other white light sources.
Advantages:
- Excellent efficiency (lumens per watt)
- Energy efficient source of light for short distances and small areas.
- Longer lasting than HPS or MH bulbs
- Higher energy savings as they require less wattage to operate
- Becoming the preferred lighting source across multiple industries
- Durable and shockproof unlike glass bulb lamp types
- Directional nature is useful for some applications like reducing stray light pollution on streetlights
Common uses: indoor and outdoor lighting applications (streetlights, parking lot lighting, etc.), home yard lighting, high bay lighting.
High Pressure Sodium (HPS)
The HPS bulb is one of the most common lighting sources on the market, though more industries are beginning to take advantage of LED benefits.
Advantages:
- Good efficiency (lumens per watt)
- Smaller size than LPS or fluorescent; the HPS to fits into many fixture types
- Can be retrofitted into older Mercury Vapor fixtures
- Better bulb life than LPS lamps
Common uses: outdoor lighting, municipal lighting, home yard lighting, high bay lighting.
Metal Halide (MH)
Metal Halide bulbs have become increasingly popular due to their quality white light and good efficiency. The MH lamp is typically installed in stadiums and sports fields.
Developers also use them for parking lots and street lighting in urban areas.
Advantages:
- More pure white light than the popular HPS lamps
- Close to daylight frequencies
- More energy efficient than mercury vapor and halogen lamps,
- Good lumen output
- Good for outdoor use
Common uses: outdoor lighting where good color rendering is needed (parking lots, sports fields, etc.).
